Inspired by Garbage 🗑️✨
Our story begins with Paige, a microbiology and environmental studies student at UVic, who found herself captivated by the science of light and disgusted by picking up thousands of glow sticks at a local music festival. As she dove into the world of chemiluminescence, Paige discovered its hidden environmental costs. This sparked a question: “Can’t we do this more sustainably?”
Today, Paige is the proud inventor on two patented, sustainable glow stick alternatives:
- The LUMI – A rechargeable, photoluminescent glow stick that’s perfect for everyday recreational use.
- The LUME – A bioluminescent, ocean-compostable glow stick designed for eco-conscious adventurers and industrial use.
Each alternative is designed to replace the billions of wasteful, single-use glow sticks that harm our planet each year.
With the help of colleagues, compatriots, and friends and famkily around the world, the LUMI was borne! 😊

Today, we’re so proud to share that you can now find LUMI in multiple stores across British Columbia, including the Ucluelet Aquarium and Deep Cove Gift Shop! 🎉✨
